The food’s good too . . . love the coffee! Breakfast, which I normally avoid, became my favorite meal while in Ubud. The hotel I stayed at was a bunch of cottages surrounded by lush grounds with the open air restaurant overlooking the gardens. Had some nice gong/drum mystical music playing in the morning and it was a pleasant start for the day to sit quietly and suck down caffeine by the cup full.
Go during the rice growing and harvesting season . . . Bali is beautiful when the rice fields are all lush and green (otherwise the fields look like muddy brown lakes). Same hotel in Ubud, second story of my cottage overlooked a rice field . . . this lady worked in the hot sun while I sat nursing a scotch. Yep, that’s the kind of guy I am.
Though the country is predominately Muslim, Bali is Hindu . . . makes for a more mild attitude toward us western touri folk. There were numerous temples to visit (after forging your way past the touts surrounding he entrance) and religious practices in the Balinese daily life made for some interesting occasions (you’ll have to find out more on the Rambling pages). This is but one of the thousands of gods, believe it is Dewa, taken at one of the temples.
