The origin of the belief that a special stone was dedicated to each month and that the stone of the month possessed a special virtue or power that it could transmit to those born in that month, goes back to at least the first century. Every major culture since ancient times has used tones to define areas of influence depending on the month of a person’s birth. The chart below lists the birth stones for seven of these cultures.
