Angkor Wat

Cambodia

Angkor Wat is the largest and most majestic of the wats in and around Siem Reap. Wasn't really my favorite for spending time in, but was the best for photo opps. This one is inside the exterior walls alongside the hmmmm, puddle? lake? viewing pond? Not sure what they called it, but the reflection in the water was too tempting to pass up. The kids playing in the sand here belong to a vendor who had a horse he'd let you sit on to have your picture taken. Maybe not a real good business idea as I never saw anyone opt for the 'me on a horse at Angkor Wat' photo. Maybe he needs to buy an elephant?

Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat from the main entrance. First is a massive causeway over the moat (which is the size of a river). Then an entrance through the exterior wall. Then another long causeway (but not over water this time) before you enter the main area of the wat. Wat viewing in Cambodia means lots of walking and climbing!

Angkor Wat

In the very middle of the wat is a tower with an extremely steep set of steps on all four sides. Told ya wat viewing involved climbing! Couldn't tell ya what's up there - I took photos instead of the hike. This is a janitor making his daily rounds. Bitch of a job, no?
While I was enjoying the view, a Geman touri and his bar hostess date came by. He wanted to climb, she didn't. He went half way up with great care and effort and then demanded she join him. Was a joy watching her scamper up the steps in her high heels - what a skill! (and she did it with ease)

Angkor Wat Monks

Guess wat? (Sorry.) More Monks! (Sorry again.) This group is walking along causeway #2 at Angkor Wat just outside of the main grounds. I was wearily headed back out when I passed this group, quickly turned around and snapped the shot. Now if I was really good in Photoshop, I'd get rid of the masses of touri cluttering up this picture.
But, a fact of wat viewing is that you get to do it with a few thousand other visitors. Most are pretty nice about staying out of your way when you bring your camera up to your eye. Except Germans. Bastards! And Japanese in groups, but that's more of a herd mentality and so you tend to excuse them.
