This is a detail of one of the carvings at Banteay Srei, the Women's Temple. It is about a 45 minute drive from Siem Reap. A drive with some of the most amazing potholes I've ever seen! The temple is much smaller than the other local major wats, but filled with these wonderful carvings, most done out of a pink hued rock. |

This is Ta Prohm, the wat overgrown by large ficus trees. This particular tree is now known as the Tomb Raider Tree, which lends a Disneyland aura to the site . . . unfortunately. |

Another shot from Angkor Thom. And another way to make money off of the touri. This is the male half of a group of local kids dressed in (semi-) traditional garb. Take their photo, or take a photo with you and them . . . now give ‘em money. Not that I’m against enterprise . . . I just don’t choose to participate. (Well, on the money end . . . a good zoom lens lets you take the pix for free.) |
