I know I mentioned before that South America, for me, is all about colors. I took this shot near Akumal on the way to Tulum, the blues of the boat set off the truquoise hues of the water so nicely! And it is unusual for me since I normally take warmer color shots in Mexico.
These are the ruins at Tulum. More accessible from Cancun than those at Chichén Itzá, an added draw is that they are perched above beautiful blue seas.
Chichén Itzá, minor ruins being covered by the jungle. Reminds me somewhat of those at Angor Wat in Cambodia. Looks mysterious and secluded . . . you'd never know there were some 50,000 people five minutes away!
This is a Chac mask on the corner of one of the temples at Chichén Itzá. The prominent element seen here is the protruding, stepped-fret “nose” of the Chac mask, representing the Maya rain god Chac. Fortunatly he wasn't paying attention the day I visited for the equinox, instead it was a bright sunny 105 degrees out.
