Ah, I love a good establishing shot . . . 'specially one that isn't real boring. But I have to admit this one was a fluke. I was bored riding along the poorly paved roads on the way to Mae Sai and started shooting pix of passing vehicles . . . and look what I got!

Take a package tour to the Golden Triangle from Chiang Mai and you have no choice but to stop at the hot springs outside of town (small geyser, 'large touri buy something' places. But this old guy was sitting in the parking lot trying to sell a variety of merchandise (no one was buying) and at least made for a good photo op.

Lao Beer. Yummy. Shame it wasn't more available outside of Laos.

Laos Bike

Notice I like pictures of bikes almost as much as I do monk shots? Live with it. This one is from the small encampment they try to pass off as your entry into Laos when you take the Mekong cruise as part of your options for the Golden Triangle tour. Just a collection of dirty little hovels filled with the same goods you've already seen in Chiang Mai. But around back, there's signs of life . . . you need to get off the established itenerary even when on a package tour.
