I was busy shooting surf shots mainly because of the water color here off Waimanalo Beach. And this touri guy walks up in front of me. No consideration! But then I laughed . . . talk about the colors of Hawaii! Mis-matched clothing and pale white legs . . . just wish he’d been wearing black socks, too.
Yet another Waimanalo shot. Why? Cuz the colors off this side of the island are always so rich. And usually you don’t have a million touri to contend with (except in the last example). Originally I liked having the outriggers on the beach in this shot to add a bit to the photo. Then noticed how the blue of the sky merged into the turquoise of the sea which in turn flowed into the green-blue colors of the boats. Whaddya think?
Probably the biggest touri related shame is that they seldom get to experience the real hula. There are several festivals held each year, and if you are visiting, try and come when one of them is on. You’ll be amazed. Kahiko is the old-style hula; very ethnic, incredibly moving. Non of the grass skirt Tahitian hip bumping stuff you see in Waikiki. Unfortunately I didn’t make a note of where I was when I took this shot. From the background it looks more like one of the local celebrations rather than a festival.
