Boats at Tonle Sap Branch Earth Trading Company

The local version of a parking lot. Everyone has a boat on Tonle Sap, how else can you sell bananas to the touri? I was really looking forward to major photo ops during my cruise up the river to the lake. But the water was an ugly brown, the sky a washed-out blue, and there was so much garbage laying about that almost every shot ended up looking like . . . well, I guess it is a third world country, after all.

Tonle Sap Vendor

So it only seems fitting that I show you a shot of bananas for sale - that is, after all, one of the main memories I’ll take away from visiting the floating village on Tonle Sap. This one is of a vendor and her kids who flocked to the floating emporium we stopped at where you could buy lunch, drinks, trinkets, or (yep) bananas. Hmmmm, now that I think about it, the one thing I never did see on this trip were banana trees . . .

Life on Tonle Sap

Yet another vendor paddling the waterways. I liked the mask on this lady, though I didn’t know what she was protecting herself from as the place didn’t stink (too bad). Note the water. I tweaked the color a bit in Photoshop. Still not an inviting hue that makes you want to jump in to cool off.

Tonle Sap Kids

Loved the colors in this one. And the kids having some fun. Or maybe they were just trying to quickly get out of the water to avoid catching something serious . . . (Oh, and you thought I’d not mention health concerns and just blab on about the cute local kids?)

Back To Ramblings . . .
